MCTIC testa solução para descontaminação de máscaras N95

Um projeto do Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia, Inovações e Comunicações (MCTIC), em parceria com a Universidade de Brasília (UnB) e o Rotary Club, está desenvolvendo um dispositivo para descontaminar máscaras N95 utilizando radiação ultravioleta (UV). O equipamento está em fase de testes e a previsão é de que 6 protótipos estejam prontos até o fim deste mês de maio.

“Estamos desenvolvendo esse sistema para descontaminação de máscaras que são usadas por profissionais no sistema médico-hospitalar de todo o país”, anunciou o ministro de Ciência, Tecnologia, Inovações e Comunicações, Marcos Pontes, na quarta-feira (6), durante coletiva à imprensa.

De acordo com o ministro, os primeiros dispositivos de descontaminação biológica deverão ser testados por seis hospitais, entre eles o Hospital de Base de Brasília e pelo Hospital Regional da Asa Norte (HRAN). Cinco dos equipamentos-piloto terão capacidade de descontaminar 96 máscaras e um outro, 240 máscaras. Cada dispositivo leva 1 hora para fazer a descontaminação das máscaras.

A busca por soluções tecnológicas para descontaminação de máscaras N95 no Brasil ocorre em razão de vários fatores, como dificuldade e restrições de importação, falta de máscaras no mercado internacional, preços altos e a existência de somente um fabricante no país.

Nas pesquisas realizadas pelo projeto do MCTIC, três tecnologias se mostraram mais eficazes: ultravioleta, ozônio e peróxido de hidrogênio. A utilização da ultravioleta se mostrou mais viável porque a indústria nacional tem capacidade e experiência em UV, os custos são baixos e têm operação e manutenção simples.

O uso de radiação ultravioleta para descontaminação de máscaras N95 já é apontado em estudos pelos Estados Unidos, por meio da FDA, e pela União Europeia. No Brasil, a utilização da radiação ultravioleta está sendo avaliada pelo MCTIC em conjunto com o Ministério da Saúde e a Anvisa. O projeto de uso de ultravioleta para descontaminação conta com investimentos da ordem de R$ 160 mil do ministério, UnB e Rotary.
